The 10 Best Beaches in Mallorca

With over 200 beaches along its coastline, Mallorca has something for everyone. From golden sands to rocky coves, family friendly beaches lined with restaurants and hotels to hidden gems accessible only by hiking through the trees. A definitive list of Mallorca’s best beaches is impossible but here we’ve tried to capture the variety that Mallorca has to offer.

Playa de Alcudia

A firm favourite with families, it’s no wonder Playa de Alcudia is Mallorca’s top-rated beach on Trip Advisor. With 7km of gorgeous white sand, Playa de Alcudia is Mallorca’s largest beach and boasts a range of facilities including beach bars, restaurants, sun loungers, umbrellas, and even Wi-Fi. The calm, clear, shallow water is perfect for children to paddle in, and the fine, white sand is ideal for building sandcastles. There’s also a playground and the opportunity to take part in a range of water sports and boat trips. The sheer size of Playa de Alcudia means it almost never feels crowded, even in the height of summer, and there truly is something for everyone.

Es Trenc

If you’re looking for unspoilt beauty, then Es Trenc is the beach for you. With 2km of golden sand, beautiful turquoise waters, and flat sand dunes, Es Trenc has often been called Mallorca’s answer to the Caribbean. The water here is calm and shallow, and it’s a great location for snorkelling or scuba diving. This beach does lack many facilities, with just a couple of nearby beach bars, and despite its relatively remote location, can be busy at peak times so make sure to bring snacks, water, and an umbrella. However, we think the natural beauty is absolutely worth it. There’s no doubting Es Trenc is one of the best beaches in Mallorca!

Playa de Santa Ponsa

One of Mallorca’s 25 Blue Flag beaches, Playa de Santa Ponsa is another family favourite. Arguably the highlight of this beach is not the golden sand or clear blue water but rather the striking pine trees lining the beach, providing some much-needed shade in the hotter months. Located in a popular tourist resort, Playa de Santa Ponsa has all the facilities you’d expect with numerous restaurants and bars along the promenade and sun loungers and umbrellas available to hire. There are a variety of activities on offer from paddle boarding to jet skiing, or if you prefer to stay on dry land, why not try beach volleyball?

Cala Formentor

With a gorgeous backdrop of pine trees and mountains, Cala Formentor is one of the most beautiful beaches in Mallorca. Like many of Mallorca’s beaches, the water is calm and safe for children to swim in, with lifeguards on duty during the summer. Cala Formentor is located approximately 6km from the popular resort of Puerto Pollensa and although it’s fairly secluded, it does get busy during peak times so it’s best to arrive early. The beach is long and narrow, meaning it lacks space for sports and activities. The breathtaking scenery definitely makes this one perfect for a day of rest and relaxation.

Cala Deià

Cala Deià is a small, picturesque, pebble beach located in a rocky bay in the northwest of Mallorca. The beach is only 70 metres long and about 10 metres wide, and there are limited facilities so be sure to bring supplies. The clear water and rocky surroundings make Cala Deià a perfect location for snorkelling but be careful as there are no lifeguards here. Close to the beach are two restaurants, both known for their seafood dishes, where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Once you’ve taken in the incredible views of Cala Deià, head up into the mountains to check out the village of Deià, where you’ll find charming traditional houses, a Michelin-starred restaurant, and maybe even a few famous visitors.

Cala Millor

Cala Millor is a large, sandy beach located in the east of Mallorca in the popular resort of the same name. Loved by holidaymakers from all over Europe, this sizeable beach can be busy but not crowded. With all the facilities you’d expect in a holiday resort and plenty of sand for building sandcastles, Cala Millor is perfect for families. The sea here is clean and safe to swim in but watch out for the waves which can be quite large. Along the seafront are a number of shops, restaurants, and bars, and for the thrill seekers, there’s even a windsurfing school.

Sa Calobra

Sa Calobra beach is situated between the cliffs where the canyon Torrent de Pareis meets the sea. The beach has a mix of sand, gravel, and pebbles and the water here appears many stunning shades of turquoise. This is one of the most famous spots in Mallorca and it’s not hard to see why it’s been a source of inspiration for artists for many years. It does get busy during the summer, with thousands of tourists wanting to see this natural beauty first-hand so try to avoid the peak times if you can for a more comfortable experience without the crowds.
