Mallorca’s Top Golf Courses

Playing Golf in Mallorca

Mallorca is home to around 20 golf courses, although a number of these are private and open to members only. Visitors to the island can play a round on at least 10 of these courses though, and some of these are up there with the best in the Mediterranean.

Whatever your handicap or even if you don’t have one, Mallorca has a course for you. These range from championship level courses such as Alcanada with its challenging layout which has hosted the Mallorca Open through to more relaxed, beginner-friendly options such as Capdepera which has more generous fairways and large greens.

The island’s courses are known for their beautiful landscapes and scenic views, with many of them featuring holes that play along the coast and offer great photo opportunities.

In addition to the golf courses, Mallorca also offers a wide range of facilities and services for golfers, such as pro shops, rental clubs, and golf academies. Many golf courses also have restaurants and bars, which offer a great place to relax and enjoy a meal or drink after a round of golf.

Here we’ve put together five of the best courses, with something to suit all levels.

Alcanada

The lighthouse above is just one of the stunning views you can enjoy while playing at Alcanada. Situated up on the North coast of Mallorca, Alcanada is considered by many to be the best course on the island.

Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr and opened in 2003, this is a mature course that has hosted several professional tournaments including the European Tour Mallorca Open.

With challenging fairways, green side bunkers and undulating greens, this is a tough and slightly formidable course suitable for experienced golfers. It’s no wonder that over the years Alcanada has been consistently ranked amongst the best in Spain.

Son Gual

Conveniently located just outside Palma, this Thomas Himmel designed course is structured in a challenging layout with multi-level greens making it ideal for the experienced golfer.

With some fabulous Par 3s, course designer Thomas Himmel kept the best til last. The amazing Par 5 18th hole has to be in the top ten Par 5s in Europe. At 530+ metres this is the longest hole on the course making it tricky to reach the green in two. Further complicated by strategically placed bunkers and a stream running alongside and across the fairway, you face a real challenge here.

Son Mutaner

A majestic golf course located just outside of Palma. It was designed by Kurt Rossknecht and opened in 2007. It is located on the Arabella Golf and Spa Resort which also hosts Son Vida and Son Quint golf courses.

The course is known for its natural setting, with a variety of Mediterranean plants and trees, and it is located in the heart of a nature reserve. It features wide fairways and large greens, with a variety of bunkers and water hazards. It has been consistently ranked as one of the top courses in Europe, and has received several awards, including “Best Course in Mallorca” and “Best Course in Spain” from various golf publications.

Son Mutaner is considered suitable for golfers of all skill levels and has five different tee options.

The course is probably best summarised as being tricky and technical, whilst also scenic and enjoyable.

Son Servera

Located by the sea with spectacular scenic views, Son Servera is situated midway between Cala Millor and Cala Ratjada on the North East coast. The course is known for its challenging layout, with several holes that are considered particularly difficult, such as the par 3 6th hole and the par 4 18th hole.

With small greens and narrow fairways that feature a variety of bunkers and water hazards this is a difficult course suitable for experienced golfers.

Capdepera

Probably the ideal course to suit all levels of golfer, this 18-hole, par-71 course is located in the town of Capdepera which lies slightly inland in the North East of the island.

The course was designed by Francisco Lopes and opened in 1991. It is known for its demanding, hilly terrain, as well as its beautiful views of the sea and the surrounding countryside.

The course is 6,009 metres (6,579 yards) from the championship tees and features a variety of holes that will test the skills of players of all levels.

The course is known for its well-maintained greens and fairways, which makes it a popular choice for golfers visiting the area. The club house is also a great place for golfers to relax after their round, with its great views of the course and Mediterranean Sea.

Overall, Mallorca is a great destination for golfers, offering a wide variety of challenging and beautiful courses, as well as a range of facilities and services to make your golfing experience as enjoyable as possible. The mild winters and hot summers also mean golfers can enjoy a game all year round.
